Photography is Jazz for the Eye

Fans of jazz photography in the Los Angeles area will have a real treat on Wednesday, May 30 as the renowned photographer (and JT contributor) William Claxton (pictured left) appears at the Bing Theater in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The event is part of the museum’s Artists on Art series. Perhaps best known for his quintessential images of Chet Baker, Claxton has defined California Cool style since the 1950s, but has actually photographed a wide range of jazz and blues musicians. Do you know anyone else who could get Sonny Rollins to wear Western cowboy gear for a session (for Way Out West)? The event takes place at 7:30 PM and is free, but seating is very limited and reservations are required. For tickets, call (877) 522-6225.
