Phaelos Reprints Sun Ra’s Immeasurable Equation

It’s almost impossible to solve Sun Ra’s “equations,” as he referred to his philosophies on time, space, cosmos and destiny. They contain a bunch of variables known only to Ra, they deal in relations both esoteric and fundamental, and when you think you have one solved it zooms off into the infinite. But it will be much easier to study Ra’s fundamental mathematics when Phaelos Books releases Sun Ra Collected Works Vol. 1: Immeasurable Equation on Nov. 19.

This lavish volume takes as its primary source Ra’s 1972 volume Immeasurable Equation II: Extensions Out, which was originally published by Ihnfinity Inc. and Saturn Research. In it, Ra laid out his equations both in philosophical and poetic formats, as transmitted direct from the otherworldly beings who (he said) aided him in his search for cosmic understanding.

The new volume was edited by Adam Abraham, son of Alton Abraham, the founder of Ra’s Saturn Research record label. Besides Ra’s writings, the new volume also features an essay by Abraham called “Sun Ra: Father of Intergalactic Music – ‘Far Out’ Before It Was Cool,” black-and-white photos of Sun Ra and his Arkestra, and never-before-seen art.
