Here’s a reminder that PBS will air the Jimmy Scott documentary If You Only Knew this Tuesday at 10 p.m. EST. The film is a biopic that lifts its title from vocalist Scott’s 1955 debut LP for Savoy and features rare concert footage and interviews with the now 78-year-old Scott (pictured), family, friends and his biographer, David Ritz. PBS recently launched a Web site ( http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/jimmyscott) devoted to the film that’s a bit lean on features but does allow you to watch and listen to Scott performing “Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child” at a November 2000 concert in Tokyo.
And, for those who just love to watch jazz singers on PBS, a taped Harry Connick Jr. concert will air next month. Titled Only You (after his latest, chart-burning CD), the concert was recorded in Quebec City in early January and features Connick backed by his renowned big band and an orchestra.
