It might be called the Pat Metheny Trio, but Metheny’s 2005 Trio Tour will have FOUR people. In addition to Christian McBride and Antonio Sanchez, the 2005 Trio Tour will also feature saxophonist David Sanchez.
It all began during a set Metheny and Sanchez played together at Montreal’s International Jazz Festival, when the musical dialogue was so compelling that Metheny wanted to continue it. The result will be a tour that features performances with both trio and quartet tunes.
Sanchez is well-prepared to take on playing with the Pat Metheny Trio. His first album, Obsesion, was produces by Branford Marsalis and earned him a 2001 Grammy nomination.
