Oscar Peterson In Words and Music

On July 16, 2002, Verve records will release A Jazz Odyssey, a new compilation album featuring the music of pianist Oscar Peterson (pictured). The CD, which will serve as a companion to Peterson’s upcoming autobiography of the same name, includes 18 tracks and showcases Peterson as both soloist and accompanist. The first nine tracks include Peterson playing such famous tunes as “Get Happy” and “My Romance,” and various other tunes from the Night Train and The Oscar Peterson Trio Plays albums. The second half of the album displays Peterson as accompanist with numerous jazz legends such as Billie Holiday (“I Only Have Eyes for You”) and Lester Young (“Pennies From Heaven”). The list of guest artists reads like a jazz hall of fame, including names like Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Ella Fitzgerald, Stan Getz, Ray Brown and Coleman Hawkins. A Jazz Odyssey: The Life of Oscar Peterson will be published by Continuum Books on July 15, 2002.
