Telarc will release The Legendary Oscar Peterson Trio: Live at the Blue Note, a historic collection of pianist Peterson’s live recordings made at the Blue Note in New York City, on September 28.
The set collects the previously released albums The Legendary Oscar Peterson Trio Live at the Blue Note, Saturday Night at the Blue Note,Last Call at the Blue Note and Encore at the Blue Note, which were recorded between March 16 and 18, 1990. Peterson’s group for these dates included bassist Ray Brown, guitarist Herb Ellis (both from his famous trio of the 1950s) and drummer Bobby Durham (who had been in Peterson’s trio from 1967-70). The discs will feature all-new packaging and the collection will be offered at a special price.
The first disc, The Legendary Oscar Peterson Trio Live at the Blue Note, won two Grammys-one for Peterson’s solo playing and one for best small group. The second album, Saturday Night at the Blue Note, won a Grammy for best small group and reached number eight on the Billboard jazz chart. The remaining two recordings, Last Call at the Blue Note and Encore at the Blue Note, were both bestsellers on the Billboard jazz chart.
