Organized: The Vinyl Room

Along with work on TLC’s “Waterfalls”, and rap groups like Outkast and Goodie Mob, Organized was responsible for one of the new retro-soul movement’s high-water marks, 1995’s shamefully ignored Society of Soul disc, “Brainchild”. One of the heads behind that disc, Sleepy Brown, steps from behind the mixing boards with “Sleepy’s Theme,” and their intoxicating The Vinyl Room, (Bang II, BBCD2001, 58:24). Like many Organized productions, the disc is an aural trip through the soul of urban Atlanta, with gospel-influenced vocals (“Curse on You”), gooey slow-sex funk (“Still Smokin”, “Private Party”) and delicate Mayfield-influenced vocals (“Grind On”).
