NYC Memorial Service for Bob Berg

When saxophonist Bob Berg (pictured) died tragically last December in an auto accident the jazz community lost one of its brightest talents. A funeral service held in Sag Harbor in the Hamptons gave many of Berg’s friends, family and colleagues from the music world a chance to grieve, but many friends felt that a special memorial service in New York City would be of help to those who could not attend the funeral.

On Jan. 30 musicians, fans, family, and fishermen (Berg was a rod-and-reel enthusiast) will gather at St. Peter’s Church in New York City at 6 p.m. to pay respects and celebrate Berg’s life. Those who attend will be encouraged to share their remembrances of Berg with his friends and family. St. Peter’s is located at 619 Lexington Avenue at 54th Street in Manhattan.

Berg’s wife, Arja, was also in the auto accident and, luckily, survived. Friends have offered to help her and her children with the financial burdens caused by Berg’s untimely death. Those who would like to help should contact Christine Martin by mail at 688 Hands Creek Road, East Hampton, NY, 11937; by phone at (631) 329-1271; or by e-mail at [email protected]
