Ninth Indy Jazz Festival to Be Held in June

The ninth annual Indy Jazz Festival will be held during Father’s Day Weekend from June 15 to 17 at Military Park in downtown Indianapolis. National, regional and local acts will play on several stages throughout the festival. Also, the winner of the 2007 Cole Porter Jazz Fellowship (the largest prize in the US awarded to jazz pianists) will be granted a performance.

Though jazz is the primary focus of the affair, blues, roots, R&B and rock acts have graced past line-ups. Last year’s headliners were Herbie Hancock, Dr. John and Bonnie Raitt.

After the success of last year’s “New Orleans Day,” the opening Friday will be “Women in Jazz” night, featuring an all-star cast of female artists at the forefront of jazz. As in past years, the Jazz Village will return, bringing together music schools, instrument makers, music venues, musicians, music stores, music organizations and more.

The 2007 artist lineup will be announced shortly. Stay tuned to the Indy Jazz Festival Web site for future updates.
