Ben Allison (pictured) and Frank Kimbrough’s Herbie Nichols Project, which brings the late Nichols’ under recorded tunes to life, hasn’t put out a record since 2001’s Strange City, but continues to perform live. The group will bring its modern reinterpretations of Nichols’ works to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse in New york City for three nights next week, June 5-7. Admission is $45 and each show starts at 8 p.m.
Regular Nichols Project drummer Matt Wilson will be present on June 5 and 7, and Mike Mazor will fill in for him on June 6. A full Nichols Project lineup follows.
