New York Hosts Mostly Jazz Festival in Late May

Famous Austrian that he is, Joe Zawinul (pictured) will be the special guest at guitarist/composer Wolfgang Muthspiel’s Mostly Jazz Festival, a four-evening event featuring mostly Austrian-led jazz bands to be held in New York City from May 28-31.

Mostly Jazz will present Austrian artists known both for frequent collaborations with American musicians and a distinctive stylistic openness to such musical and nonmusical influences as European classical music, global folk music, literature and poetry. The festival will be held at a new midtown Manhattan building, the Austrian Cultural Forum (ACF).

In addition to Muthspiel and Zawinul, Mostly Jazz will present New York-based Austrian bassist/composer Peter Herbert with his band (Marc Copland/piano, Carol Robinson/bass

clarinet, Ingrid Jensen/trumpet, flugelhorn, Kenny Wollesen/drums); Vienna Art Orchestra founder and saxophonist/flutist Wolfgang Puschnig with electric bassist Jamaladeen Tacuma; and trumpeter Thomas Gansch, founder of the band Gansch and Roses.

All shows are free to the public, however, due to limited seating capacity in the auditorium, tickets are required. They will be available on the day of the event only, on a first-come, first-served basis at the ACF reception desk 30 minutes prior to the show’s start time. The ACF is located at 11 East 52nd Street (between Fifth and Madison Avenues). For more information call (212) 319-5300
