An exhibition focusing on the late vibes master Lionel Hampton, coinciding with the centennial anniversary of his birth, will run at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans from April 19 to July 30. A major new painting of Hampton, titled “Flying Home,” created for the museum’s permanent collection by artist Frederick J. Brown, will be unveiled for the exhibition.
The exhibition will feature more than 30 photographs from the Lionel Hampton Archives at the University of Idaho/Moscow and other important historic, personal and musical artifacts. On April 20, the Ogden will host a panel discussion with members of Lionel Hampton’s Big Band. For more information call 504-539-9614.
