New Jersey Kings: Party to the Bus Stop

The identities of the New Jersey Kings may remain a mystery, but the appeal of their organized instrumental pop couldn’t be more obvious. Party to the Bus Stop (Acid Jazz/Hollywood AJ 68048-2, 41:00) has it in full doses-tasty horn solos, locked in rhythms and freewheeling organ, all careening over familiar riff-n-vamp funk-isms (“The Monkey Drop” “Sweet Cakes”). Retro as hell, a bit light in spots, and with some derivative cover art (see Miles’ “On the Corner”), b#ut still fun.
