In yesterday’s JT mailbag: Cassandra Wilson’s follow up to last year’s Belly of the Sun. Blue Note kept this one hush-hush for a while. It’s not even in the label’s latest release schedule. No matter. Now we know. The disc, slated for a October 7 release, is called Glamoured and continues Belly‘s laid back and earthy vibe. Wilson is quoted in a press release saying “Glamoured is a Gaelic word with many definitions. But the one I like best is ‘to be whisked away.’ It’s like being in a daydream-those split seconds when you’re transfixed and your eyes can’t move and you have to shake yourself out of it. This album captures the feeling of that reverie.”
In addition to a number of Wilson originals, tracks on the album include Bob Dylan’s “Lay Lady Lay,” Sting’s “Fragile” and Abbey Lincoln’s “Throw it Away” (a full track list follows). As for players, Wilson maintains some of the same musicians that made Belly so mellow, but adds a few new players like drummer Terri Lyne Carrington and harmonica player Gregoire Maret. A full personnel list follows this track list:
