New Book to Interest Kids in Jazz Available in September

A new book designed to engage children in jazz music and history will reach bookstores at the end of September. Titled All That the Dog Ever Wanted (Fields of Gold) and written by Amy Neftzger, the book follows the story of a dog named Django who wants to learn to play jazz to gain the approval of his owner. But in addition to just entertaining children, the book also gives a brief history on jazz and explains how jazz is different from other genres. It also includes a brief biography on Django Reinhardt, the main character’s namesake.

Included with the book is a CD of three jazz tunes, written by Tyra Neftzger, designed to correspond with the story. Teaching aids for the book are available online at Fields of Gold’s website. The website contains discussion questions, basic curriculum and music samples. The book will be available at bookstores, online and through Fields of Gold.
