Palmetto Records will release A Love Supreme, the label debut of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s renowned big band The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis (pictured), on January 11, 2005. The orchestra will tour the U.S. in support of the release, beginning December 10 at the Lincoln Theater in Washington, D.C. and finishing with shows at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City on May 21.
Marsalis calls A Love Supreme, composed by John Coltrane and originally recorded in 1964 for Impulse!, “one of the most influential and revered of jazz recordings.”
The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra has been the Jazz at Lincoln Center resident orchestra since 1988 and under Marsalis’ leadership have performed a vast repertory including pieces by composers such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Fletcher Henderson, Thelonious Monk and Charles Mingus, as well as commissioned works by Benny Carter, Joe Henderson, Jimmy Heath, Chico O’Farrill and others.
