Naxos Makes Jazz Cheap

Tennessee-based Naxos of America has announced the formation of a new reissue series – Naxos Jazz Legends – to complement its Naxos Jazz imprint. The first three CDs will be released in May and will be Django Reinhardt, Djangology, Vol. 1 1934-35; Woody Herman, The Band That Plays the Blues, 1937-1941; and Sidney Bechet, Spreadin’ Joy, 1940-50. The discs in the

series will average 15-18 tracks and will be exclusively comprised of material previously unreleased on CD. The discs will be available at national retail outlets and carry a suggested price of $6.99. The label plans to release one or two new titles each month. Upcoming releases include works by Teddy Wilson and Coleman Hawkins, among others.
