Musicians to March in NYC for Hurricane Relief

In an effort to shed a new light on the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina, one group is making a call for at least 100 musicians with their instruments to gather for a mass New Orleans-style funeral procession through the streets of New York City on Sept. 11. The location of the march is on the Southside of Washington Square Park, in front Judson Church at 239 Thompson Street. It will begin at 3 p.m.

The World Can’t Wait, Drive Out the Bush Regime, the organizers of the procession, said in a press release that the citizens of New Orleans have been “wading through toxic water or warehoused in ‘superdomes’ and gruesome shelters all over the south. To be blunt, they need a lot more than our money and sympathy.” If any musicians are interested in joining the march, please contact trumpet player Alicia Rau at (917) 721-7686 or Connie Julian at (917) 449-9064. The organization’s website is www.worldcantwait.org.
