Milt Hinton to be Remembered in June

A formal memorial service for Milt Hilton, the legendary bassist heard on thousands of recordings, will take place June 24 at the Riverside Church in New York City. The church is located at 120th Street and Riverside Drive. Hinton died in December at the age of 90 after an extended illness.

In addition to the amazing number of recordings Hinton played on, he left behind 60,000 photographs – an intimate history of the world he knew on the road, in the studio, at parties, and at home. These pictures have been the subject of two books and numerous gallery exhibitions, including a new show at The Fullerton (Calif.) Museum Center May 12-Sept. 9. Hinton is survived by his wife Mona, a daughter, and a granddaughter.
