Mika Pohjola: Myths & Beliefs

Born in Finland, educated in jazz in Sweden and at Berklee (as a regular student and as a private student of Gary Burton), pianist Pohjola would make a good ECM signee. He and his trio (bassist Bruno Raberg and drummer Roberto Dani) convey the openness of certain European folk music traditions and the sensitivity of jazz in the romantic tradition: Bill Evans, Jim Hall, Paul Bley, Keith Jarrett, early Chick Corea, perhaps even Burton. Guitarist Mick Goodrick joins the trio on several tracks. The tunes are Pohjola originals-evocative impressionistic jazz performances.
