This past June, the Metheny Music Foundation allowed two high school students to attend the annual University of Missouri/Kansas City Jazz Improv Camp. To help more students gain such opportunities, the organization will host its first major fundraiser on March 7.
Metheny’s Music Foundation was created by guitarist and 17-time Grammy winner Pat Metheny, and is meant to “preserve, promote and perpetuate an informed appreciation for all styles of music” and honor “the history of the Metheny family through four generations and the rich musical heritage of the city of Lee’s Summit, the state of Missouri, and the surrounding region,” according to Pat’s brother, trumpeter Mike Metheny. The brothers, natives of Lee’s Summit, have focused the foundation on educational and historical endeavors to benefit area students and residents.
The fundraiser will feature the Pat Metheny Trio and other special guests, and will begin at 8 p.m. at Unity Village near Lee’s Summit. Tickets for the event went are on sale and cost $40 per person for the entire evening or $35 for the concert only. To purchase, visit Metheny Music Foundation.
