MCG Jazz to Release Two Albums

MCG Jazz will be releasing two new live jazz albums Feb. 28, 2006. The non-profit organization, which works to promote and preserve jazz, will release Old School, New Lessons, a set by the Bob Mintzer Big Band featuring Kurt Elling and the Yellowjackets, and Bebop United, a bop-updated set led by saxophonist Tom Scott featuring Phil Woods.

Arranger and saxophonist Bob Mintzer’s (pictured) live album, as its title suggests, draws upon his 23 years in the music business for inspiration. Bebop United blends jazz and bebop with contemporary harmonies and original compositions that were completed with the help of musicians including Randy Brecker, Gil Goldstein and Duane Burno.

All proceeds from these albums will benefit funding for MCG Jazz education programs. For more information about the two albums, please visit www.mcgjazz.org.
