The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association announced that Grammy Award winner and Philadelphia native Christian McBride will succeed Dianne Reeves as the Creative Chair for Jazz for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. Bassist McBride will oversee jazz programming at both the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl throughout his two-year tenure. McBride is slated to begin at the start of the Hollywood Bowl’s 2006 season, working for the organization year round and has said he plans on focusing on the Philharmonic’s presence within the musical community.
Dianne Reeves is currently completing her third season as Creative Chair for Jazz with the Walt Disney Concert Hall’s 2005/2006 season. Scheduled to perform under Reeves are the Pat Metheny Trio and Quartet on Sept. 24, the Django Reinhardt Festival on Nov. 16, Music from My Fair Lady on Dec. 4, Wayne Shorter with the Los Angeles Philharmonic on Jan. 28, 2006, the Maria Schneider Orchestra on Feb. 8 and Wynton Marsalis on Oct. 30.
The Philharmonic Association has forged a strong relationship with the city of Los Angeles, which extends to its educational programs and community concerts, always seeking to expose the broadest audience possible to its music.
