Trumpet player Marvin Stamm (pictured) will teach and perform at the Brubeck Institute Summer Jazz Colony at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif., next month.
Stamm and 10 other jazz artists will be participating in the jazz colony to help students “gain a better understanding of jazz as an art form and of what life is like as a working musician,” Brubeck Institute Director Steve Anderson said in a press release.
The weeklong program will be supplemented with appearances by jazz artists: Essiet Okon Essiet, Steve Homan, Brian Kendrick, Patrick Langham, Bart Marantz, Paul McKee, Frank Morgan and Ed Soph, along with Stamm. At the conclusion of the summer program, the participating artists will perform Aug. 10. The students in the Brubeck program will perform Aug. 11 at the Fay Spanos Concert Hall.
Tickets for the Aug. 10 show are $10 general admission; $5 for seniors and students. The student show on Aug. 11 is $8 for general admission and $4 for seniors and students. Tickets will only be sold 45 minutes before each performance. For more information on the performances, call (209) 946-3196.
