Last week we reported that the musical members of the mighty Marsalis clan would soon be releasing a CD that documents their concert performance from August of 2001 (see Jazz News 12/10/02). And we also mentioned that a tour featuring pianist Ellis and his sons Wynton, Branford, Delfeayo and Jason was in the works. We received the tour dates late last week, but had a company holiday party to attend and couldn’t get the info to you as fast as we would have liked to-the roast beef was getting cold, you see. Thanks for being patient:
February 23 – Ottawa, ONT – National Arts Centre
February 24 – Toronto, ONT – Massey Hall
February 25 – Montreal, QC – Wilfrid Pelletier Hall
February 27 – Schenectady, NY – Proctor’s
February 28 – Syracuse, NY – Landmark Theatre (Ellis Marsalis & Sons:
A Benefit Concert for the Syracuse Partnership to Reduce Juvenile Gun Violence)
March 1 – Newark, NJ – NJPAC
March 2 – Philadelphia, PA – Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center
March 3 – Boston, MA – Symphony Hall, Celebrity Series
Marsalises are hard working boys, God bless ’em, and though the tour and forthcoming album (release date: Feb. 4, 2003) would probably be enough to satiate even the biggest Marsalis fanboy or fangirl, the family is preparing a PBS special all about themselves that will premiere Feb. 20 and will be released on DVD this spring. Sadly, no VHS release is planned. And you thought the Marsalises were stuck in the past.
