Marsalis Joins Juilliard’s Faculty

Twenty-some years into his career, Wynton Marsalis (pictured) is only becoming more ubiquitous. The young-lion-turned-old-hand now adds to his resume the position of jazz faculty member at the Juilliard School, his alma mater. In 2001 the school added the Juilliard Institute for Jazz Studies, a collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center, where Marsalis retains the title of Artistic Director. A bachelor of music degree in jazz studies will begin to be offered in fall 2003. If you’d like to get into the classroom with Professor Marsalis then, you must audition during March 2003. In addition to Marsalis, Juilliard’s jazz faculty will also boast the talents of flutist Barli Nugent, who is currently the school’s director of chamber music.
