Marian McPartland Earns Honorary Degree

The New England Conservatory is giving away degrees like the Washington Wizards give away wins. In an April 20 ceremony, the Conservatory will award honorary degrees to pianist Marian McPartland (pictured left), host of National Public Radio’s “Piano Jazz,” ragtime revivalist William Bolcom, classical pianist Robert Levin and Julliard president/bassoonist Joseph W. Polisi. The Conservatory will also inaugurate Daniel Steiner as the school’s eighth president, and the NEC Jazz Orchestra will perform a composition by NEC faculty member George Russell.
