Jazz at Lincoln Center has announced the latest installation of their annual As of Now series: the Marcus Roberts Trio and Jason Moran and the Bandwagon. The concerts are set to take place on April 22 and 23.
Each year As of Now features premieres of new works by an established jazz composer/performer and an up-and-coming composer/performer, and this year is no different. Marcus Roberts will present a new piece for his trio with Roland Guerin (bass) and Jason Marsalis (drums); Jason Moran and the Bandwagon (Tarus Mateen (bass) and Nasheet Waits (drums)) will perform a new piece for a larger ensemble.
Past As of Now performers include Martial Solal and Herve Sellin in 2004, the big bands of Toshiko Akiyoshi and Maria Schneider in 2003, Randy Weston and Danilo Perez in 2002, Sam Rivers and Eric Reed in 2001, Paquito D’Rivera and Nicholas Payton in 2000 and Charles McPherson and Wallace Roney in 1999.
