Mads Vinding: The Kingdom

Danish bassist Vinding leads a lyrical European trio (Italian pianist Enrico Pieranunzi and Danish drummer Alex Riel) on this album. The music suggests the impressionistic ECM records of the ’70s and also trio music recorded by Bill Evans and Chick Corea. Vinding’s tone is deep and stately, and he and Pieranunzi swap melody statements seamlessly. Their version of Leonard Bernstein’s “Somewhere” is particularly moving. “Lover,” “I Remember Clifford,” “Someday My Prince Will Come” and “My Foolish Heart” are other familiar tunes heard here.
