If you didn’t know that the Caramoor Jazz Festival is held at a location only an hour from Manhattan by car, you’d wonder how they managed to snag so many big NYC names to play at the same time-John Pizzarelli, Bill Charlap and Marilyn Crispell, to name three. Also, it doesn’t hurt that the Caramoor fest’s newly appointed artistic director is saxophonist Joe Lovano, a man with inroads to the players, mos def. Lovano will also headline the first night of the festival and will probably wear a funny hat onstage.
The festival is held on two Saturdays on consecutive weekends, July 26 and August 2, at Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts’ Venetian Theater: 149 Girdle Ridge Road, Katonah, N.Y. Tickets for each day are priced at $47.50 and $45, call (914) 232-1252 to purchase. For more information about the Caramoor Jazz Festival , call (914) 232-5035, or visit caramoor.org.
