Louis Armstrong House Acquires Memoribilia Collection

The Louis Armstrong House and Archives at Queens College in New York recently announced they have acquired the world’s foremost private collection of Armstrong memorabilia, the Jack Bradley-Louis Armstrong Collection. Selected highlights will be available for public viewing from Nov. 3, 2005 through Feb. 26, 2006.

For much of Armstrong’s life, he and Bradley were good friends and Bradley served as Armstrong’s personal photographer. Bradley’s collection includes dozens of 16 mm films, almost every commercially released Armstrong recording, letters and manuscripts, Armstrong postage stamps from 14 nations and even Armstrong’s bedroom slippers and sports coats. The Louis Armstrong House is acquiring this collection through a grant awarded by the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation for $480,000.
