In January we reported that Tom Lord’s famous Jazz Discography was complete; the good Lord finished with a detailed entry on Torstern Zwingenberger (or some such Z-boy) and sent it to print. It’s no modest accomplishment-with over 1.4 million entries collected in 26 volumes, it’s quite a heavy load of texts. Thoughtfully, Lord also created a digital version of his work available on CD-ROM.
The Jazz Discography CD-ROM 3.3 presents detailed information on most jazz recordings released on 78s, 45s, LPs and CDs. Recording sessions are displayed in chronological order by bandleader and include information on personnel, instruments played, recording location and date, tunes recorded and matrix and record company release numbers. Matrix numbers!
The discography can be purchased for both PC and Mac systems and anyone who picks it up can purchase future versions at a special price. Upgrades are expected to be published annually, commencing mid 2003.
