Lincoln Center Presents the First Jazz Talk, Charlie Parker: The Myth vs. the Reality

Is your jazz knowledge a little lacking? If so, Lincoln Center is here to help with its Jazz Talk series, part of the center’s 2007-08 season.

The series, which consists of four sessions about various jazz topics, begins Nov. 8 with “Charlie Parker: The Myth vs. the Reality.” The session will feature moderator Lewis Porter, drummer Roy Haynes, writer and historian Ira Gitler and Jazz at Lincoln Center curator Phil Schaap discussing Bird and the truths and mysteries about his life.

The Charlie Parker session will be held at the Irene Diamond Education Center at Frederick P. Rose Hall in Lincoln Center on Broadway in New York City. Tickets to each session cost $10 and are available by calling (212) 721-6500 or by visiting jalc.org.

1/31/08: “Is Jazz Black Music?,” moderated by Lewis Porter and featuring musicians Don Byron and Daniel Carter and writer Nat Hentoff.

2/28/08: “An Evening with Randy Weston,” moderated by Lewis Porter and featuring pianist and composer Randy Weston.

4/17/2008: “Hoofin’ It: Jazz and Tap,” featuring dancers performing this original African-American art form.
