Continuing its celebration of the “Year of the Drum” in the 2002-03 season, Jazz at Lincoln Center will produce two nights of performances by Roy Haynes (pictured) on October 16 and 17 at 8 p.m. in Alice Tully Hall. “The World of Roy Haynes” will feature the drummer performing music from all points in his 60-year career.
On October 16 Haynes will open with his current working quartet with saxophonist Marcus Strickland, pianist Martin Bejerano and bassist John Sullivan. When they finish, pianist Chick Corea and bassist John Patitucci will join Haynes for some righteous trio action. The following night Haynes will play in a quartet setting with guitarist Pat Metheny, trumpeter Roy Hargrove and bassist Scott Colley.
