After delivering an inspirational performance at the recent Cape May Jazz Festival, vocalist Little Jimmy Scott will perform this Memorial Day weekend at Philadelphia’s Zanzibar Blue.
The small-framed singer’s career is now over a half-century old, and he boasts one of jazz’s most emphatic, brilliant voices. In the April 2000 issue of JazzTimes, reviewer Joel Siegel writes, “No male jazz or pop singer, not even Ray Charles drowning in his own tears or Frank Sinatra in the wee small hours, has expressed heartache as movingly as Little Jimmy Scott.”
Scott will perform two sets per night beginning on Friday, May 26 and continuing through Sunday, May 28. Set times for the Friday and Saturday shows are 7:45 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. The Sunday shows will begin and 6:45 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. Tickets cost $35 and reservations can be made by calling (215) 732-4500 or online at www.zanzibarblue.com (click on the menu, questions or contact pages). Zanzibar Blue is located at 200 South Broad St. in Philly.
