Composer Lalo Schifrin recently gathered with friends at Capitol Records Studio A&B to celebrate the release of his new recording, Esperanto. The album, composed and conducted by Schifrin, features the WDR Big Band – which combines top players from five different continents, including Jean-Luc Ponty, Don Byron, Trilok Gurtu and Greg Hutchinson. The highly ambitious and visionary work represents Schifrin’s utopian interpretion of a world where the sounds of music, more than words, bring universal peace, tolerance and a real communication amongst the members of the human race.
The versatile and prolific Schifrin was also recently honored by the Film Music Society with the prestigious organization’s 2000 Career Achievement Award
