Kenny Garrett Performs Benefit Concert

Kenny Garrett has caught on to that famous bumper-sticker mantra: Think globally, act locally. On Sun., Apr. 28, the saxophonist and the members of his quartet-drummer Chris Dave, pianist Vernell Brown and bassist Vicente Archer-will perform a benefit concert for Interfaith Council for The Homeless of Union County (IFC), an organization dedicated to bringing relief to homeless citizens of the New Jersey county.

Garrett is deeply concerned about the homeless and the hardships they incur and he’s educated on the breadth of the problem as his wife, Sayydah, works for IFC. “It’s distressing to realize how deep the problem of homelessness is” Garrett says. “But it’s impressive to see that IFC can offer help to people who otherwise might not have anywhere to turn.” In 2001 IFC helped over 600 people find housing, half of which were children. With the help of Garrett and other community-minded individuals, we hope IFC will have enough funds to meet or exceed that level of excellence this year.

Tickets to the Kenny Garrett Quartet benefit concert can be ordered in advance by calling Union County Arts Center at 732 499-8226. All seats are $35. The Union County Arts Center is a restored building located in downtown Rahway at 1601 Irving Street in Rahway, NJ. For more information on how to purchase tickets, visit http://www.ucac.org
