Kansas City to Host New Summer Jazz Festival

Kansas City is set for another summer jazz festival, the first Rhythm & Ribs Jazz Festival to be held June 17-19. The festival features jazz, blues, gospel and R&B performances amid an amateur barbecue contest, baseball games, a classic car show and local food and craft vendors.

Scheduled performers include Karrin Allyson (pictured), Kenny Garrett, Bobby Watson, Take 6, Keb’ Mo’, Koko Taylor, The Blind Boys of Alabama and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Anyone interested in participating in the barbecue contest can fill out an application at the festival’s website (www.kcrhythmandribs.com) for the chance to be one of each day’s 16 participants.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for children ages 6-12 for one-day passes and $25 and $15, respectively, for three-day passes. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and Kansas City’s American Jazz Museum box office.
