Performances by Ornette Coleman (pictured), Abbey Lincoln, João Gilberto and a tribute to late singer Nina Simone are among the highlights of the 2004 JVC Jazz Festival-New York, which will takes over the Big Apple from June 15-26 and will feature more than 300 artists in nearly 60 events and 17 venues including the Apollo Theater, Birdland, Iridium, the Kaye Playhouse and Carnegie Hall.
The festival’s artist lineup was announced yesterday and also includes Bill Charlap, Phil Woods, Fred Hersch and the four-star quartet of Herbie Hancok, Wayne Shorter, Dave Holland and Brian Blade.
