Juno Winners Announced

Canada’s Juno award ceremony (the Great Northern Grammys) was held April 6 in Ottawa, and in February we told you we’d tell you who the winners in Juno’s three jazz categories were.

Seems Canadians like Diana Krall too. She won Vocal Jazz Album of the Year for Live in Paris (Verve) and she can put her Juno (which looks kind of like an Oscar, but silver) on display next to the Grammy she won in 1999 for When I Look in Your Eyes.

Pianist Renee Rosnes’ Life on Earth (Blue Note) won Traditional Album of the Year, which is interesting since that album has a world-music element you cannot ignore, not quite traditional by our standards.

Finally, saxophonist Richard Underhill’s Tales from the Blue Lounge (Stubby/Outside) won for Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year.
