John Zorn Makes the Colbert Report

As we reported last month, John Zorn was one of 25 MacArthur Fellows named on Sept. 19. Fellows receive a no-strings-attached $500,000 prize that is designed to fuel their creative endeavors in the future. The three criteria for becoming a fellow are evidence of exceptional creativity, significant promise for the future based upon a history of accomplishment, and the potential for the recipients’ work to greatly benefit from the fellowship.

While earning such great recognition will undoubtedly aid Zorn’s bevy of musical projects, it likely won’t win him any new fans, as evidenced by Stephen Colbert’s tirade on Comedy Central’s Colbert Report last week. Check out Stephen’s rant here: youtube.com/Colbert.

And speaking for all of us who could really use $500,000 to fuel our creative endeavors: Stephen, we feel your pain.
