John Lurie: African Swim and Manny & Lo

Two movie soundtracks by the Lizard King. As might be expected, the proceedings consist largely of repetitive development that may be very effective as incidental music but is less so on its own. There are also as many rock as jazz references. But there are also some really fascinating moments; the music is as highly colored as the Lounge Lizards’ best and Lurie’s humor comes through. He isn’t exactly over-recorded, so even soundtrack writing should interest his fans.
