John Abercrombie, Drew Gress to Play Benefit Concert for Mike Smith

Drummer Mike Smith has been critically ill and is unable to pay his medical expenses. In response, guitarist John Abercrombie, Marc Copland, Drew Gress and Tony Martucci will play a benefit concert in Silver Spring, Md., with proceeds going towards Smith’s medical bills.

The concert will be held in the Washington, D.C. suburb (and JazzTimes stomping ground) on Jan. 9, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church at 9545 Georgia Ave. Tickets will be available at the door and the contribution is $25. Tickets also available ahead of time at; donations can also be made at the website.
