JJA Jazz Awards 2002 Nominees Announced

The Jazz Journalists Association’s Sixth Annual Celebration of Excellence will be held June 19 from at 4 p.m. at the Jazz Standard in New York City and will honor musicians, promoters, writers, photographers, broadcasters, periodicals and Web sites in 38 categories of achievement. Unfortunately, the category for Best Liner Notes/Program Notes of the Year has been withdrawn this year for lack of voters’ participation. On the flipside, due to “instance of membership unanimity,” Best Jazz Film/Video of the Year has already been given to the Latin-jazz documentary Calle 54, directed by Fernando Trueba.

Tickets for the event are $100, with proceeds going to the Jazz Foundation of America’s Musicians Emergency Fund. JJA members will be charged a nominal entrance fee to cover production costs.

To purchase tickets go to www.jazzjournalistsawards.com. If paying via check, contact JJA Treasurer Arnold Jay Smith at (718) 625-0501

A list of nominees follows. For more information visit www.jazzjournalistsawards.com or contact Howard Mandel, JJA President at [email protected]
