Jimmy McGriff, one of jazz’s greatest organists, will be honored with a special tribute concert Thursday, Nov. 8 in his hometown of Philadelphia.
The tribute concert will feature a variety of musicians, such as fellow jazz organists Joey DeFrancesco, Trudy Pitts and “Papa” John DeFrancesco, who will each play a set and then interact with a jam session at the end of the night. Other musicians in attendance will include Don Williams, Byron Landham, Mr. C and others. The evening’s Master of Ceremonies will be Bob Perkins, jazz radio host for WRTI, Philadelphia.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the Harold O. Davis Memorial Baptist Church in Philadelphia.
