Jerry Tachoir Group: Travels

On this eclectic outing, the accomplished Tennessee-based mallet player Jerry Tachoir performs a collection of original material composed by he and his wife, pianist Marlene Tachoir. The tunes, some revealing a decided Chick Corea influence, range from appealing Afro-Caribbean flavored numbers (“Sketch,” “Market Place,” “Hip Joint”) to a loping blues (“Elect Oral Blues”), a thoughtful piece marked by chamberlike elegance (“Saguenay”) and a beautiful ballad (“Favor”). Fretless electric bassist Roy Vogt makes some significant contributions here.
