Jazz Standard Hosts Birthday Parties

New York’s Jazz Standard has come up with a unique way for both kids and parents to enjoy children’s birthday parties. The club, located downstairs from barbecue restaurant Blue Smoke, is now hosting kids birthday parties on Sunday afternoons with the Jazz Standard Youth Orchestra (JSYO). The birthday celebrations offer children-and adults-the chance to learn about jazz, eat plenty of barbeque and meet jazz musicians.

Partygoers can have lunch on the club’s balcony, which accommodates up to 30 people for a seated meal, or at the balcony bar, which is located behind the main area of the jazz club and offers a full view of the stage.

Instead of a cover charge, a $5 donation is built into the cost of each child’s meal. The proceeds benefit the Jazz Standard Discovery Program, which strives to connect New York City school children to jazz in a hands-on way.

The JSYO features talented young musicians from New York City public schools. In February, the orchestra will be joined by guest musicians such as guitarist Peter Bernstein and trombone player Ryan Keberle.
