Jazz in Arizona Celebrates 25-Year Anniversary

Jazz in Arizona has announced that it will stage a concert on October 19th to celebrate the organization’s 25th year of jazz-support activity and to raise funds for youth music scholarships. Headliners for the event will be vocalist Francine Reed, who performed at the first Jazz in Arizona event in 1977, Los Angeles saxophonist Rickey Woodard (pictured), and saxophonist Bob Wilber, who will perform with local pianist Charles Lewis’ All-Star Quintet. Special guests with that quintet will include 14-year-old alto saxophonist Alex Han and 20-year-old vocalist Jaime Miller. Also performing will be Arizona based guitarist Ted Goddard and seven piece Latin ensemble Sonido Global. The music will begin at 7 p.m. at Monterra at Westworld, 16601 N. Pima Road, Scottsdale. General seating admission is $25, $20 for Jazz in AZ members. An optional cocktail reception and dinner will precede the concert, $75 for dinner and reserved concert seating. Jazz in AZ is a nonprofit jazz-support organization dedicated to celebrating America’s original music through producing live performances, serving as a central source of jazz information and providing scholarships to promising students.
