Jazz at Lincoln Center Honors Martin Luther King With Concert

Jazz at Lincoln Center, the New York City-based non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and development of jazz, has announced an event on Jan. 15 at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola in tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The event, sponsored by Target, features the New Jazz Composers Octet along with special guest Billy Harper; the former will premiere a piece in homage to Dr. King, Jr., who was a jazz enthusiast throughout his life. At the performance, Target will distribute a historical compilation CD that honors 10 of the country’s most significant African-American artists.

The evening will include three shows with complimentary cover charge, courtesy of Target: a family-friendly set at 5:30 p.m., with traditional sets at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Patrons are encouraged to reserve their seats by calling (212) 258-9595 or (212) 258-9795, as space is limited. Reservations may also be made online at http://www.jalc.org/dccc.
