Jarrett and Barbieri on DVD

Bringing jazz to a home theater near you, Image Entertainment will release two new DVDs in August featuring performances by the Keith Jarrett Trio and Gato Barbieri (pictured left).

The Jarrett disc, Live at Open Theater East, is a 1993 date played in Japan with bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Jack DeJohnette. Over two hours long, the performance includes such standard fare as “In Your Own Sweet Way,” “Bye Bye Blackbird” and “Basin Street Blues.” For the digitally-challenged, Live at Open Theater East is also available on VHS.

Barbieri’s Live From the Latin Quarter captures a New York performance with keyboardist Mark Soskin, bassist Mario Rodriguez, drummer Robbie Gonzalez and percussionist Frank Colon. The setlist is typical of a Barbieri release, with seven Latin-flavored tunes like “Llamerito y Tango,” “Europa” and “Via Emiliano Zapata.”

Both DVDs will be available August 7 and feature Dolby Digital sound.
